I was commissioned to design the logo for the DJ, CHOMPPA.
CHOMPPA was looking for a design that involved chattering teeth with fangs that weren’t overly scary.
After a variety of concepts, we both agreed on the design seen here. I took it upon myself to add extra details to the concept. CHOMPPA’s original title was “Midas” as a reference to the famous story of the king who would turn everything he touched into gold. As a reference to this past, I made one of the fangs gold.
I also made the wind-up device for the chattering teeth into a dial seen on amplifiers to help the logo feel more music orientated than comedy/joke shop.
My work with CHOMPPA continued a few months later as he was looking for two follow-up designs to be used for merchandise to celebrate his new EP release.
The first design was of a Sabertoothed tiger. CHOMPPA sent me the videos he would be using as the backdrop for his live shows and they featured 3D renderings of the characters he wanted me to do an illustration of, so I had some reference of how they should look.
The second design was of a venus fly trap.
Again, I had the backdrop videos CHOMPPA sent me as a basis for the overall design. He wanted a blue butterfly caught in the mouth to add some suspense to the image with the mouth about to snap. As you can see, both designs keep the teeth theme and I made sure to include the golden tooth to help with the connection to the original logo further.
